Molten Core

Trash mobs:

Molten Giants
Molten Core Trash Mobs: Molten Giant There are several types of giants roaming the passages of Molten Core. Molten Giants are the first type you will encounter in the zone. These big guys run in pairs, so pulling them solo is not an option.

Molten Giants have a few moves but their biggest attribute is their impressive HP pool. Some of their attacks include melee hits in the range of 600-800, a knock back effect that causes the tank to lose some hate, and a stomp attack that will damage surrounding targets. Killing these guys involves the tanks taking the targets to separate locations as not to stack the attacks. Tanks may want to place either backs to a wall to counter the knock back effect. Kill one giant at a time while distributing healing to both tanks.

Spawn timer: None.

Firelord
Molten Core Trash Mobs: Firelord These guys can be a pain at first but killing Firelords will be easy once you understand the rules for their destruction. Firelords only hit for 500 but these guys have some tricks up their sleeves that will easily wipe a raid if not handled in the correct fashion.

Firelords have the ability to DoT a target with a nasty effect called Soul Burn. Soul Burn will silence a target and will cause 4000 damage over 30 seconds. Luckily this effect can be dispelled. The most devastating ability in the Firelord's arsenal is the ability to spawn Lava Spawns. If Lava Spawns are left unattended they will in time split from one into two, two into four, and four into eight. As you can see if a fight last long enough with Lava Spawns running wild the Firelord has the ability to create an entire army.

To kill Firelords all you need is a tank to hold the attention, while the raid party DPS. Switching focus to the new Lava Spawns is essential. Mages can use blizzard for increased damage and will DPS both the Firelord and Lava Spawn at the same time. Rogues can act as off tanks for Lava Spawns so that mages don't have to tank them due to the hate generated from AoEing. Always remember to dispel the Burning Soul from targets, as its DoT will eat through an HP pool in no time at all.

Spawn timer: 2 hours.

Lava Annihilator
Molten Core Trash Mobs: Lava Annihilator The Lava Annihilator is a rock elemental type trash mob. Lava Annihilators are one of the easier trash mobs that populate the zone.

The Lava Annihilator hits for around 600-1100, but its true strength lies with its special ability. The Lava Annihilator has a special ability that grants it a random hate list. What this means is that this trash mob will be bouncing and hitting random raid party members. Luckily this mob can be banished and is not to difficult to dispose of.

To reduce the range the Lava spawn will run back and forth it is wise to have the raid party clump up into one area so that melee fighters do not find themselves out of range during the fight.

If you find that you cannot kill the Lava Annihilator all I can say is "Go home and get your f#*king shine box."

Spawn timer: 2 hours.

Lava Surger
Molten Core Trash Mobs: Lava Surger The Lava Surger is a rock elemental and can be mistaken for a Lava Annihilator to the untrained eye. Do not make this mistake as you do not wish to clump up on these boys unless you like pain. As with the Annihilators these will be dispatched with little effort. Lava Surgers can also be banished if need be.

The Lava Surger hits in the range of 600-800 for normal attacks. The Surger also has a special charge ability that will choose a secondary target and charge. Upon impact he will hit the target and surrounding members for 1000 damage that also has a knock back effect.

Do not clump up on Lava Surgers as the charge effect will hit everyone surrounding the secondary target therefore hitting the entire raid party. Lava Surgers can be taunted so let him charge the secondary target and then return to the main tank. Heal through the damage and burn this sucker down.

Once again if you are having issues with the Lava Surger you know where your shine box is.

Spawn timer: 28 minutes. Once Garr is dead they will no longer spawn.

Core Hound Packs
Molten Core Trash Mobs: Core Hound Packs Core Hound Packs are unique in that they are only found in one section of Molten Core. The Core Hound Packs are found on the way to Magmadar and Lucifron within the cavern.

The hounds hit in the range of 300-400 damage. The hounds also have a frontal DoT attack (Serrated Bite) that will cause 50 damage every second. This DoT stacks and can get out of control if the targets are not dealt with in a timely fashion. What makes the Core Hound Packs a challenge is that all Core Hounds must die within 10 seconds of each other or the living Core Hounds will resurrect the dead.

Core Hound Packs require some preparation in order to kill them. There are 5 hounds per pack that will require a tank. Geared druids can sub for tanks during the Core Hound Pack pulls without too much fuss as long as there is adequate healing. Pre-assign tank targets and pull, after a few seconds of hate generation AoE the crap out of them. If hounds are dying faster than the others remove them from the AoE damage area then bring them back in when ready. Remember these dogs MUST die within 10 seconds of each other.

Spawn timer: 1 hour.

Ancient Core Hounds
Molten Core Trash Mobs: Ancient Core Hounds Ancient Core Hounds can be a real pain depending on the type that you get. These pesky dogs have a normal attack that will deal 200-300 damage, a fontal cone bite attack, and an AoE that will hit for 800 fire damage.

Ancient Core Hounds come in the following flavours:

Ancient Dread - Slow spell casting and melee speed by 50%
Ancient Despair - 3 seconds of confusion
Ground Stomp - 5 second stun
Ancient Hysteria - 50% reduction in int/spirit
Withering Heat - Maximum hp pool reduced by 15% for 1 minute (magic dispellable)

The tank should tank the mob with the rest of the raid party to the rear. The stun and confuse can be tricky at times, especially when trying to get that last second heal on a falling tank. Debuff the FR debuff during the fight as that can increase the hounds DPS. Removing the other debuffs after the fight is normally a good idea :p

Spawn timer: 18 minutes. Once Magmadar is dead they will no longer spawn.

Molten Destroyers
Molten Core Trash Mobs: Molten Destroyers Molten Destroyers are the bigger brother to the Molten Giants you have fought thus far. As you progress further into Molten Core you will find Giants being replaced with Destroyers until you come to double Destroyer pulls.

The normal attack of a Molten Destroyer is 700-800. Destroyers can also perform a massive trample that is an AoE attack that will deal 1000 damage. Destroyers also have a smash attack that will hit a target for 1000-1100 damage. The last attack in the arsenal of the Molten Destroyer is a Knock Down ability. This is probably the only attack that needs special consideration due to tanks getting knocked back and not generating hate quickly.

Generally you will want to burn the giant in a giant/destroyer pull. Remember to keep the mobs separated so that you are not stacking abilities and stuns across both tanks.

Spawn timer: None.

Imps
Molten Core Trash Mobs: Imps The Imps are found in the tunnel leading to Lucifron and Magmadar. These little buggers will swarm and attack. Have a tank pull while the rest AoE these little guys into oblivion. Some packs can be bypassed if you hug the opposite wall. These guys will respawn quickly so make your way through the tunnel and do not waste time admiring the stalagmites and stalactites.

Spawn timer: ???

Lava Packs
Molten Core Trash Mobs: Lava Packs
Lava Packs are the main population of Molten Core after Garr. Lava Packs come in two flavours. 3 pulls consist of a Firewalker, Flameguard, and a Lava Reaver. 4 pulls consist of a Firewalker, Flameguard, and two Lava Elementals.

Firewalker (Fire Elemental):
Incite Flame - AoE debuff that reduces FR by 50 and stacks
High damage fireball that can be launched in volleys

Flameguard (Fire Elemental):
Melt armor - AoE debuff that reduces AC and stacks
Frontal cone fire based attack
Small AoE fire damage dealing 100-200 damage

Lava Reaver (Rock Elemental):
Hits in the range of 600-800
Cleaves for 600-700 hitting in a frontal cone
Can be banished

Lava Elemental (Rock Elemental):
Hits in the range of 600-800
Strikes for 800-1000
Pyroblast Barrage hits for 1500 fire damage over 6 seconds and stuns the target
Can be banished

On Lava Packs you will want to have the warlocks banish the rocks while the Flameguard and Firewalker are separated. You don't want the debuffs to stack. The Firewalker is the first to die but it will take a few more seconds to reach the raid party than the rest of the mobs. Remember he is a Firewalker not a Firerunner, so be patient. The Flameguard is the next to fall, then the banished Reaver or Elementals. These will be hard pulls while your tanks have lower then average FR gear. Just come prepared with lots of healing to try and compensate.

Spawn timer: 2 hours.
