Blackwing Lair

Trash mobs:

The trash mobs in Blackwing Lair are handled in a linear fashion. The guide is written in the order they are encountered as you progress through the lair.

Goblin Technicians
The Goblin Technicians are first found in the room where Vaelastrasz resides. They are positioned on either side of Vael and will take flight after entering the room. Each group of Goblin Technicians will run up the ramps on their respective sides. Have the raid group split into two sections and catch each goblin pack. Don’t worry about Vael, as his encounter is not started until he is talked to. Chasing the Goblin Technicians is generally a good idea as they can drop precious Elementium Ore.

Dragonkin Packs
The Dragonkin Packs are located in a room between Vaelastrasz and the Suppression Room. There are 2 packs to pull. Each pull is comprised of the following mob types.

Death Talon Captain
Cleave: Frontal cone Melee attack.
Flame Shock: Fire damage DoT.
Mark of Detonation: Damage shield that deals 650 - 850 damage when hit by melee.
Aura of Flame: Aura that deals 200 fire damage to anyone in range.

Death Talon Seether
Charge: Charges random targets and delivers a knock back. Knock back can send you up to the 2nd floor.
Flame Buffet: Deals 900 - 1100 fire damage with a secondary debuff that increases fire damage taken by 1000. Debuff lasts 20 sec.
Frenzy: Increases melee attack speed.

Death Talon Flamescale
Berserker Charge: Similar to the warrior charge ability dealing a knock back with a secondary damage component.
Flame Shock: Fire damage DoT.

Death Talon Wyrmkin
Fireball Volley: AoE fireball. Multiple fireballs are launched at targets in range dealing 300+ fire damage.
Blast Wave: PBAoE Fire Blast that deals 300+ fire damage.

Suppression Room
Ah yes the Suppression Room. You will love to hate this room while your guild is still trying to master their technique for clearing it.

The room is filled with the following:

Death Talon Hatchers
Blackwing Taskmasters
Corrupted Whelps
Suppression Devices

The Key to passing the Suppression Room is to clear your path and keep moving. Here are the challenges to contend with while trying to pass through the suppression room. First on the list are the respawn timers. Death Talon Hatches and the Blackwing Taskmasters will respawn after 10- 15 min, while the Whelps respawn after 1- 2min. To complicate things even further your raid party will have to navigate past the pillars in the room. These are traps known as Suppression Devices. When a Suppression Device is active is will cast a debuff on surrounding players that will reduce movement, attack, and casting speed by 80%. So as you can see with the dense population of the room combined with the above mentioned challenges the Suppression Room is harder to master than some of the Boss encounters in BWL.

Suppression Room Highlights
Choose your path through the Suppression Room wisely. Most guilds take the right side of the room as their desired path. This is a longer path but offers you less to kill in the long run. Running the center of the room will require a complete clear of all the mobs and this can be very time consuming. Running the left side of the room, while being a more direct route also has the chance of pulling the mobs from the second level if you are not careful.

Different strokes for different folks. There will be 3 types of pulls/kills in the Suppression Room.

Death Talon Hatcher
MT will tank the Hatcher away from the raid party while melee DPS burn the target down. Ranged DPS with nothing to do can also contribute to get the target down as quickly as possible.

Blackwing Taskmasters
Blackwing Taskmasters always come in groups of 3. These guys can be sheeped and killed in single file or as a group depending on your raid composition. The sheep method will require a single off tank while the AoE method requires 3 off tanks. Melee/Ranged DPS will burn these targets down quickly.

Corrupt Whelps
These guys are tricky. They spawn so quickly that it is hard to pull the other mobs without getting a group of these guys too. Their health pool is small and they are killed quickly with raid AoE. The Whelps come in a few colors. Red is resistant to fire damage, blue is resistant to frost damage, green is resistant to nature damage, and Bronze is resistant to arcane damage. Mix up the AoE damage types for the most effective killing strategy.

Suppression Devices
These are considered traps so a few trusty rogues will be on trap duty. Their job will be to keep the appropriate traps down to facilitate pulling and clearing the raid party's passage through the minefield.

Working each of these pulls in a sequential fashion will get you through the Suppression Room but they are really effective if you overlap them. You will find the respawn rate to be more manageable if you pull mobs as others are dying or pull them both at the same time. Remember to give mana users a break to med once in a while.

If players die in the Suppression Room get a rez on them as soon as you are out of combat. Having them run back will get them caught to the respawns of the Suppression Room depending on how deep you are. Having them run back and summoning them once through the Suppression Room is always an option. Remember the end of the Suppression Room is the Broodlord boss encounter. Wiping on Broodlord or the Suppression Room will require a full clear of the Suppression Rooms again. Not a good way to spend ones free time by any means.

Technician Packs/ Deathtalon Packs/ Master Elemental Shaper Krixx
Technician packs are found beyond the gate where Broodlord is located. They are referred to as Goblin Packs or Technician Packs as most pulls include these annoying buggers. Deathtalon Packs and Krixx are also found in the mix of mobs beyond Broodlord.

Technician Packs include the following mobs:

Blackwing Technician
Bombs: Throws a bomb at target dealing a direct damage fire based attack. Techs will often assist train target a single player. This ups their damage potential making them deadly if left unattended.
Bottle of Poison: Deals a poison based DoT that can stack.

Blackwing Spellbinder
Flamestrike: Targeted AoE fire spell.
Greater Polymorph: Will poly a close target every few seconds.

Blackwing Warlock
Rain of Fire: Targeted AoE fire spell. Extremely powerful spell.
Shadowbolt: Single target direct damage Shadow based spell. A powerful attack that is cast frequently.
Summon Felguard: Summons a massive Felguard to fight along side them. The Felguard can be banished and will automatically expire if they live to long.

Death Talon Overseer
Magic Vulnerability: Vulnerable to a single school of magic (Fire, Frost, Shadow, Nature, or Arcane) causing massive amounts of damage. Non-vulnerable schools of magic will have high resistances causing severely reduced damage.
Cleave: Frontal cone physical attack.
Fire Blast: Deals 1100-1400 fire damage.

Death Talon Wyrmguard
Magic Vulnerability: Vulnerable to a single school of magic (Fire, Frost, Shadow, Nature, or Arcane) causing massive amounts of damage. Non-vulnerable schools of magic will have high resistances causing severely reduced damage.
Cleave: Frontal cone physical attack.
War Stomp: AoE stun.

Master Elemental Shaper Krixx
In the mix of pulls lies Krixx. Don't be too quick to kill Krixx or you will deny yourself the opportunity to learn how to smelt Elementium Ore. Simply mind control Krixx to allow raid members to learn the ability. If everyone has obtained the new skill or it is not needed in the run Krixx becomes cannon fodder for the raid party.
